Women’s Health

Acupuncture and herbal medicine offer women a natural, gentle and effective way to restore health.

Women may face hormonal issues at any stage of their lives.  The hormone system can be easily disrupted by a number of factors, such as high stress levels, fatigue, medication, diet, and pollutants.

The female hormone and reproductive systems are complex and delicate.  Health is a collection of many physiological processes working in harmony.  It only takes one of these processes to be out of step to cause a decline in health and fertility.

Women with menstrual problems and infertility often suffer other health problems, such as insomnia, fatigue, weight gain, low libido, or emotional imbalances such as irritability, anxiety or low mood.  If you are experiencing these kinds of symptoms, we urge you to seek treatment with us.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine work by maximising your health potential.  Our treatments prompt the body to re-establish normal cycles, reduce stress hormones, encourage rest, and settle your emotions.

Women’s health is an extremely broad and complex area and there is too much to discuss in a brief introduction such as this.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like more information.

A wealth of experience

The long history of fertility treatment with Chinese Medicine has seen the development of a highly refined approach to women’s health.  Chinese Medicine offers a very powerful, yet very gentle and safe alternative.

Gynaecology is one of Chinese Medicine’s most well-known and appreciated specialties, having a continuous history of practice for over 2,500 years.  By 475-200 BC and the writing of one of Chinese Medicine’s oldest surviving texts (the Neijing Suwen), there was already a rich and comprehensive understanding of fertility and conception, accompanied by thorough diagnostics and treatments for specific fertility disorders.  Topics outlined in the Neijing Suwen text ranged from age-related fertility issues, determining pregnancy from taking the pulse, and the use of herbal medicine for pregnancy.

The most prominent pre-modern textbook on the subject of gynaecology and obstetrics comes from the early Qing Dynasty (1600’s-1700’s).  Containing numerous accounts of various fertility problems, the author Fu Qing-Zhu describes treatment plans and herbal medicine formulas, which are still commonly used by Chinese Medicine practitioners today.
